Do Minivans qualify for the Harvest Hosts network?

About minivans and the Harvest Hosts network.

Minivans can be welcome in the program as long as they’re self-contained and ready to travel without needing anything from the Host. A quick way to check is to see if your setup can answer “yes” to the following:

  • Do you have a bed in your vehicle?

  • Do you carry your own water supply and have a way to collect gray water?

  • Do you have your own power source, so you don’t need an electric hookup?

  • Do you have a toilet that stores waste until you reach a dump station? (Porta-potties are fine)

  • Is your minivan in good working condition, with no leaks and well-maintained?

One additional note: outdoor cooking isn’t permitted at Host locations, so most members plan a simple meal inside their rig, dine with the Host if they offer food, or grab dinner before arriving.

If everything above fits your setup, you should be all set to enjoy the network.

Definition of a Self-Contained Vehicle

To qualify as self-contained under Harvest Hosts guidelines, your vehicle must be fully self-sufficient in managing essential resources like water, power, and waste, without needing external support from hosts.

Essential Features

  1. Sleeping Arrangement: - A dedicated bed must be present for occupants to sleep inside the vehicle.

  2. Water System: - Your vehicle must carry its own water supply, with an ability to run freshwater and collect gray water through onboard or securely fitted removable tanks. - Dumping gray water at host sites is strictly prohibited.

  3. Toilet Facilities: - An onboard or portable toilet that securely contains waste until it can be emptied at an off-site dump station is mandatory. Examples include porta-potties stored and used inside the vehicle.

  4. Power Source: - A self-contained power source must supply the vehicle’s electricity. External hook-ups provided by the host cannot be relied upon.

  5. Vehicle Condition: - The vehicle must be in good working condition, free of fluid leaks, and well-maintained.

Cooking Restrictions

Outdoor cooking is not allowed at host locations. Guests should plan lighter, no-cook meals, dine at the host's business, or prepare meals in advance.
