One of the best things about Harvest Hosts is that every location has its own personality. Farms, wineries, breweries, and unique properties all bring their own character, and that's part of what makes staying with a Host so special. Part of that personality is you, including your own beliefs, interests, and opinions.
That said, Members are your customers, and every guest, regardless of their background, beliefs, or political views, should feel welcome and safe at your location. This isn't about changing what you believe. What matters is how personal expression is shared, and making sure it never leaves a guest feeling excluded, judged, or unsafe during their stay.
The guiding idea
You're absolutely welcome to express your personal beliefs and interests on your own property. The question to ask yourself is simple: does the way I'm sharing this make every guest feel comfortable staying here, or could it make someone feel excluded, offended, targeted, or pressured? A little personal flair rarely causes issues. It's when expression becomes required, hostile, or hard to avoid that it starts to affect the guest experience, such as signs, stickers, or even T-shirts with a controversial message on them.
What tends to cross the line
Requiring guests to participate in or sit through religious or political content as part of check-in or their stay
Signage or language that insults, targets, or singles out guests based on how they vote, what they believe, or who they are
Large or numerous displays concentrated right where guests park or check in, making them hard to avoid
A few practical tips
Keep anything divisive out of high-traffic guest areas like parking and check-in, and enjoy it in a more personal space on your property instead.
If you like sharing your beliefs or interests with guests, keep it optional and casual rather than built into the check-in process.
If you have signage or displays some guests might not expect, consider adding a friendly note to your Host Profile letting them know all are welcome, with a quick heads-up on what they'll see. That way guests know what to expect before they book, and everyone's comfortable.
When in doubt, lead with hospitality first. A warm welcome and clear instructions go a long way, no matter what else is going on at your location.
Why this matters
A welcoming experience is good for everyone, you and your guests alike. When members feel comfortable and cared for, they're more likely to leave great reviews, and great reviews bring more bookings and more members discovering your location down the road. Helping every guest have a good experience isn't just good for the community; it's good for your business too. For more on expectations at your location, see our Host Code of Conduct.
